Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) is a provincial agency that serves as a go-to leader and resource for Intellectual Property (IP) expertise. IPON provides IP education, funding, supports and services to help better position innovative researchers and companies maximize the value of their IP, strengthen their capacity to grow and compete in the global market.

Location: This is a hybrid opportunity within Ontario. We have offices in both Kitchener and Toronto where the team meets to collaborate on an as-needed basis.

The IP Education Manager will develop and deliver IPON’s education to IPON’s various stakeholders, including industry clients, researchers and ecosystem partners. IP education will be developed and tailored to advance IP knowledge and applicable IP competencies in an engaging and meaningful way to IPON clients and innovation partners.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage IP education programming through all phases of IPON’s digital curriculum development, from concept to design, content development, implementation, product launch, change management and continuous improvement.
  • Develop IP educational strategies to identify learner groups, learning pathways and learning objectives that align with the agency’s mandates.
  • Create, deliver and manage content development including creating curriculum, courses, toolkits, checklists, resources, etc., and writing and re-writing content. 
  • Design effective learning experiences for clients and the broader innovation ecosystem to align with effective IP Education strategies.
  • Ensure standards and quality for content, curriculum design, instructional methods, and assessment practices are maintained.
  • Oversee all educational materials to ensure alignment with organizational goals, educational standards, and stakeholder and client needs.
  • Collaborate with other agencies, stakeholders, partners, and working groups to share education content and best practices, and identify opportunities for collaboration and maximizing resources. 
  • Manage deliverable timelines with cross functional teams.
  • Develop key performance measurements and track and report on these measurements. 
  • Assist in providing training and support on the use of LMS, including best practices for content creation, user engagement, and data analysis.
  • Apply best practices for educational content and delivery in compliance with The French Language Services Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Manage Learning Specialist to ensure continuous development and education program success.
  • Champion and promote an environment and culture of service excellence which respects diversity, encourages all employees to work together to achieve results and contribute to a healthy, rewarding, and productive working environment where personal and team accountability are key to meeting the mandate of IPON.

Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years of recent experience working in IP, with experience in the development and delivery of IP education.
  • Degree in law, science/engineering, education, communications, instructional design or certifications in Intellectual Property, or a combination of education, experience and training deemed equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of key IP areas, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and IP strategy.
  • Excellent writing skills with experience developing content and curriculums for complex or technical topics. 
  • A good understanding of the innovation ecosystem and IP.
  • Proven ability to translate complex IP concepts into clear, practical content for various stakeholders (non-experts to advanced learners).
  • Strong ability to deliver best-in-class IP educational content on behalf of IPON.
  • Experience delivering training or educational programs in-person and online.
  • Leadership experience, managing a small team or leader cross-functional project teams.
  • Strategic thinking skills to understand the broader picture and organizational objectives while maintaining ability to be hands-on in developing and writing content. 
  • Effective and engaging communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong project and change management experience with a sense of urgency to keep projects on track.
  • Attention for detail and maintain high and consistent quality standards.
  • An understanding of The French Language Services Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of instructional design or educational content software such as Articulate.
